Whirlwind East Coast Trip and Back

Birmingham, Atlanta, Miami, New Jersey and D.C. all in 4 days – lots of flights, driving, meetings and inspections. However its all good and we are grateful for the business. It was good to see several of our regular clients and to see that they are doing well.

Brandon continues to tackle each of his ASA BV and M&E courses and his next target in sight is M&E 202. His next CFA level 2 exam is slated for June of next year. Keep up the good work Brandon !

Also, great news that we have Shannon back up to full speed and we are thankful for her recovery.  What an asset she is to our company !

Not much happening on the liquidation side currently but we certainly have seen an active appraisal practice over the past 3 months of summer.

East Coast Trip Coming Up and Projects

We had to postpone our August East Coast trip for a few weeks but it looks like we head out next week. We will be in Georgia, Florida and possibly New Jersey. Typically by this time of year we have already made several East Coast trips but we have had a run on West Coast projects for the past several months. We continue to see a varied work load with our appraisal projects including construction/heavy equipment, life science, semiconductor, medical, inventories and restaurant FF&E. Upcoming projects will have us working on consumer electronics, automated production lines and a clinical/pathology testing lab.

Thank you to all our clients for your continued confidence in our efforts – it is truly appreciated.

Interesting Semicon and Intersolar show in S.F.

We attended the combined Semicon West and Intersolar convention in San Francisco last week. We saw a number of old acquaintances and made some new friends as well. Seems like this year’s event was busier and with more buzz than last year. Overall industry optimism seemed greater and most people that we talked to said that traffic at their booths was up.

We are excited about the opportunities to value and resell solar technology equipment. Unlike semiconductor tools, which are more standardized, valuing and reselling solar equipment has some challenging aspects as there are multiple tool platforms and competing technologies. We expect that as the solar industry matures and several technologies become dominant, tool standards will emerge and a more structured secondary market will develop. We plan on staying very much in tune with these developments.

Busier Summer Than Usual

Over the past few years we have seen summer appraisal activity fall off, but such is not the case this summer – thankfully so ! We have been quite active with varied appraisal projects including an alternative energy – cogeneration plant, a number of semiconductor tool residual analyses, a surgery center and a life science company. We were particularly pleased with the positive feedback we received on our cogen plant appraisal as this involved the application of the cost, market and income approaches to value.

We will be making a swing out to the East Coast in August as we update our inventory valuations for a computer and consumer electronics distributor. We will be conducting inventory audits along with our valuations.

We won’t make the International ASA convention this year in Washington DC but are looking forward to several other ASA, CFA and ELFA events coming up in late 2011 and early 2012.
